Also known as Texas Plume, Scarlet Gilia, or Red Texas Star.

Standing Cypress is a striking plant with tall spikes of bright red flowers. It is a biennial or short-lived perennial, but it will reseed, so allow it time to establish a colony. The plant forms a basal rosette the first year, then bolts and blooms the second year. It prefers well-drained, sandy or rocky soil in full sun. Hummingbirds love the tubular flowers.
